What appeals to you most about making what you make? Why do you make things? I like making pieces that capture a feeling I’ve had or a moment in time. When I was at a darker time in my life it helped to get my feelings out and now I tend to capture more humorous things that happen from day to day. I like to try to convey complex feelings in simplistic relationships between a girl and usually some little animal. They make me happy.

How do you prepare for creating something?/ What steps do you take before actually making a piece? I usually sketch something out on paper first, just to get an idea of the composition. Sometimes when I want ninja in a certain stance or pose I’ll photograph myself in that pose to try to get it to look right. Sometimes I look up animals online to get an idea of how to draw them, but often times I forgo realism for my own interpretation of them!

Do you have a pet? Please explain. Oh my, yes. Turtle, my cat, who is the sometimes comforting, often times mischievous side-kick that appears in turtle form in so many of my paintings.
