What appeals to you most about making what you make? Why do you make things? I love making Shower Art because it is ridiculous and my husband and I find it hilarious. We mainly are trying to crack each other up by – and the fact that other people like it is also a bonus.
How else do you find inspiration? I just try to let my mind go and see what crazy phrase it comes back with. Then, I encase that phrase in rubber – with toys and glitter. Doug, my husband, is more technical about his pieces and insists on planning them out and only using phrases that other people will understand.
Why did you choose the medium you work with? We first made Shower Arts with resin – in the early, early, early days. Then, we had a friend who was dating a guy who knew about rubber. He turned us on to the magic that is the UNSCENTED material that we use today; we can’t thank him enough. Aside from resin being stinky – it’s also kind of brittle – whereas rubber is soft and a little squooshy.
