What appeals to you about making what you make? Why do you make things?
-Lisa: I make memorials from objects because I have always been sentimental. Objects become, in effect, vicarious representations of people and places and thus represent their energy.
-Dave: I love finding and capturing random quiet moments displayed and expressed to me by the Universe. I see them as a gift and I am thankful for them.
Why did you choose to work with the medium you work with? We didn’t, It chose us.
What is the first thing you ever made? Lisa: It’s not the very first thing I’ve made, but the most memorable from the early years was when I made a Lego cemetery that buries 3 Lego people and a working Lego Guillotine that chops off the heads of my Lego people when I was 14.
What is your favorite music to listen to while you work? Dave: Epic, ambient music like Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins and soundtrack music to gladiator movies. Sometimes Wilson Phillips. It may be easier to tell you what I don’t listen to. I don’t listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Black Eyed Peas or Maroon Five… ever.
